About this project

This dashboard tracks how risk around the world’s maritime chokepoints — Suez and the Red Sea, Hormuz, Panama, the Bosphorus and the Danish straits — is framed in the news as events unfold, rather than after the fact.

Risk is measured as risk-lexicon matches per 1,000 lemmatised tokens, computed over English-language articles only, with noise pages excluded. The source corpus is the GDELT Global Knowledge Graph. The dashboard shows the geographic distribution of risk, an aggregate daily series across all chokepoints, and a per-chokepoint breakdown.
